What can the system do in response to an event?
An action is what a rule performs once the trigger fires. You pick it from the Select action list, also grouped by topic.
What the system can do in the orders module, broadly:
- change the order — its status or its data;
- send a message — e-mail, SMS or an internal note for your team;
- handle a shipment — create or delete it;
- issue or cancel a document — invoice, receipt, credit note; there is also a VAT ID check against invoice data;
- run a return — from creating the form to refunding the payment and the commission;
- reach outside the system — call a URL, fire a custom event, print.
One rule can perform several actions in sequence — change the status, issue an invoice and send an SMS, for example. You arrange them in the order they should run.
Call a URL is the escape hatch for anything not on the list — it sends a request to the address you give, so you can hook up your own script or an external service. Without writing any code inside Easyitem.
Actions can reach into another module too — a warehouse rule can fetch product data or an order from a neighbouring module, for instance. More: What is Easyitem Sync?
The current action list is always in the panel and grows with the system.
