What is WMS and where do I start?

WMS runs your warehouse: it knows where the goods are, plans the picking route and makes sure the right item ends up in the parcel.

It is the largest module in Easyitem — thirteen screens:

  • Dashboard — the current picture of warehouse work.
  • Orders — orders that arrived from OMS and are waiting to be picked.
  • Carts and Picking routes — organising the pick.
  • Operations — stock moves and corrections.
  • Product list and Location list — what you have and where it sits.
  • Structure — the layout of the warehouse: zones, racks, places.
  • Stocktaking and Reports.
  • Order statuses, Automated actions, Settings.

Where to start: with Structure and Location list — without a described warehouse nothing else has anything to stand on. Goods receipt comes next, automation rules last.

WMS uses Easyitem Sync the most. Its trigger list has separate OMS (order created, downloaded, status changed) and PIM (product created, price or VAT rate changed, edited, deleted) groups. Its actions reach into other modules too: fetch an order from OMS, fetch and update product information from PIM.

WMS is the source of stock levels for OmniChannel. It tells the system how many pieces are really on the shelf, and that is what gets sent to the sales platforms. So a gap between what an offer shows and what is actually there is usually explained on the warehouse side, not the sales channel.

Two triggers are worth knowing from day one: "Stock threshold reached" and "Missing product reported during picking" — these are what you build rules on to avoid selling goods you do not have.

WMS also has a scheduled trigger — a rule can run on a timetable, not only in reaction to an event.

What WMS will not do on its own: it will not take an order from a sales channel or pull an offer from a platform. Orders come from OMS, and its stock reaches the platforms through OmniChannel — both thanks to Easyitem Sync.
